| Pet Shop Boys Praise 'Pop' Act Arctic Monkeys |
|
Neil Tennant, one half of British pop act 'Pet Shop Boys' has taken a dig at modern pop industry and reckons the likes of Arctic Monkeys and other guitar acts are the real stars of pop music.
Speaking to contact music, he said: "We are going through a phase where the term 'pop' is used to mean rubbish. "But bands like the Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand make pop music.
”They like to think they are rock but they are pop and all have a sense of fun about what they do and have a great look.”
"It annoys me that pop gets clogged up with Pop Idol and reality TV rubbish.
"Shayne Ward has a waxwork in Madame Tussauds - can you believe it?" |

| Arctic Monkeys beaten by 'Inspirational' Wallace & Gromit |
|
Arctic Monkeys had to settle for second place in a recently conducted survey in which 16-25-year olds were asked of their most inspirational figures in the creative arts world.
Out of the 4,500 asked, Arctic Monkeys were mentioned enough times to be awarded second place, only failing to beat claymated cartoon characters Wallace & Gromit, whose success in the poll was likely due to their recent box office hit 'The Curse of the Were-Rabbit'
Arctic Monkeys did manage to beat cartoon band Gorillaz and 'Society' as a whole, who finished third and fourth respectively.
Here is the top 25 list:

| Arctic Monkeys vs Oasis - Tequila Slammers! |
|
38-year old Oasis legend Noel Gallagher was humiliated by 20-year old Arctic Monkey Andy Nicholson - in a tequila slamming contest.
The Arctic Monkeys' bass player taught his hero a good lesson in binge drinking, before Gallagher was suddenly rescued by his girlfriend
Noel explained: "I ended up in their aftershow and the bass player goes to the bar and comes back with this tray of tequilas."
"I thought ‘I can’t be drinking that, it’s nearly two in the morning'. I couldn’t say no though because I didn’t want to let the side down. He was banging them down. I was about to urinate."
"I was speaking to my missus through semaphore to get her off the dancefloor and rescue me."
"She came over saying ‘we’ve got to go home’ and I was acting all surprised, saying ‘What, already?’ I can’t remember getting home." |
